Modest 4th of July Outfits Lookbook!

Happy 240th Birthday America!

150 million hotdogs, 285 million pounds of fireworks, and $48 million will be spent by consumers shopping for anything, red, white and blue! (that would include me lol!)

Next to Christmas, 4th of July is my favorite holiday! I cannot explain exactly why, but it is!

img_4441

Nothing is ever free, though to you it be.  Somewhere, Somehow, Someone paid.

American Liberty surely is great, Liberty in Christ is greater!

As I was reading through my devotions this morning it dawned on me that celebrating 4th of July as a Christian takes a whole new meaning on also being liberated from the bondage of sin.

Even though U.S citizens have freedom, ironically some are still held by the chains of their sins. Chains that can only be broken by placing one’s trust on Jesus Christ.

1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Modest Swimwear Hack! Featuring Jessica Rey and Slide the City Event Review!

1,000 ft. water slide across the streets of downtown SLC? Sign me up! For the longest time ever, I have always wanted to go to this city wide event and my wish finally came true this year!

P.S. How cute are all these trendy pool floats? Thanks Target!

Slide the City  event was organized in waves of time periods you could attend to limit your time waiting in line. Once you reached the top of the hill it was time to grab your float and take the jump to slide the the streets in SLC.

Okay, funny story literally the night before the event I rushed over to my local Target to grab myself a watermelon pool float! The awesome thing was that all their pool floats were on sale for 50% OFF! Which made my watermelon float that much “sweeter” and pun was definitely intended 😉

Alright so let’s jump right into what I wore to Slide the City! I am so grateful that I had my modest girl trio along with me to take a stand for modesty. I am also grateful that we were not the only ones at the event promoting modesty. You see, I live in Utah which is a conservative state for the most part, and I was beyond pleased to see young ladies in their cute and covered swimsuits while having fun!

img_4409

Red, White, blue & gingham for a 4th of July picnic inspired look!

My modest swimsuit is from the gorgeous Jessica Rey, founder of Rey swimwear!

Jessica is a sweet friend of mine who I had the pleasure of meeting last August!

img_4407

She is an inspiration! Her video on the evolution of the swimsuit on Youtube has over 2 million views and is a must watch! It is a beautifully researched lecture on why we choose to be modest.

Plus, I adore her tagline, “Who says it has to be itsy bitsy?”

I expressed to Jessica that I would have to wear a longer skirt over the suit to fit my convictions and she was still willing to work with me! (An exciting Giveaway coming soon! 😉

So here is the modest swimwear hack that will be able to work with just about any swimsuit! It will literally cut your swimsuit shopping in half!

All I did was buy 2 yards of red stretchy fabric at Walmart and an elastic band!

I made a quick DIY circle skirt and sewed on the elastic band and VOILA! Longer swim skirt was finished! Let me know if you’d like a step by step tutorial on it!

img_4411

the cool thing about this skirt is that it actually dried pretty quick without having to purchase actual swimwear fabric which costs more than half as much!

$3 per yard at Walmart vs. $10 per yard for actual swimwear fabric

$6 (fabric)  + $2 (elastic) = $8 swim skirt

VS.

$20 (fabric) + $2 (elastic) = $22 swim skirt

If you are planning on attending Slide the City, here are some things to consider before you go!

Know before you Go: Slide the City

  1. Bring as little as possible! If you can leave your purse in your car, DO IT!
  2. Water stations are provided all throughout the event so you can leave that water bottle in your house!
  3. Cheap flip flops are the way to go! I wouldn’t bring my designer pair of sandals to this event as you may run the risk of losing them when going down the slide! *runaway sandals were seen all throughout the event lol*
  4. No towels are needed! If it was as hot as it was here in Utah, there was no need to bring a towel as just walking around made us dry really quickly, plus it is one less thing you need to bring and take care of!

A BIG SHOUTOUT to our amazing photographer Trish  who literally braved all the elements we threw at her and still managed to take amazing photos!

I mean we are talking like, shooting at the worst possible time (noon), water, heat and carrying  all our stuff! She was a trooper! Thank you Trish!

Enjoy the photos and have a great and safe 4th of July weekend!

For a hot summer day, I felt covered but not melting! Lol

He said ,”alright would you like cheese on top of your sundae?” 😳 I’m sorry what? Cheese? As in queso? C-H-E-E-S-E on a sundae? LOL

i was tempted to try it but for the pictures I unfortunately had to decline. (Unfortunately .😜)

Modest Summer Outfit! + How To Dress Modestly in the Summer Heat!

Greetings lovelies!!

The summer heat is just around the corner which means that maintaining our modesty standards can be very challenging!

Usually what we resort to is a good ol’ cardigan and layering of pieces to make modesty stylish but this may not be such a good idea in the summer! (‘Cause sweating just isn’t cute!)

So here are some of my tips and tricks to beat the heat while maintaining our modesty standards!

IMG_2453

Tip #1: Wear lightweight Fabrics: Knit jerseys and cotton are the best!

Wearing these types of fabrics are not only breathable fabrics but are very comfortable in the summer heat!

Maxi dresses, and skirts are usually made out of this breathable material! And not to mention so affordable at places like ROSS, TJ MAXX and Forever21!

Tip #2: Wear Single Pieced Clothing Items!

Dresses are going to be your best friend in the summer!! Skirts are awesome and all but we all know the hassle of wearing a skirt and having to layer an undershirt + a shirt + a belt! I love wearing maxi skirts in the summer because they usually are already good ”stand alone pieces” that don’t require too much decoration up top!

Tip #3: Breathable FOOTWEAR!

Sandals!! No duh! Wearing heels is my favorite and I will continue to wear them (yes even in the summer) but when I go to festivals/summer shopping etc I always make sure to wear either sandals or open toed heels! What a difference it makes! It is said that you can regulate your body’s temperature by your feet and your neck.

Tip #4: Put your jewelry in the freezer!

Haha I know this sounds a bit strange but it really works! Pop your favorite statement necklace for an hour in the freezer (preferably in a plastic bag) before you head out. Once you’re ready to head out wear your refreshingly cold necklace and watch how it cools down your body temperature! This of course is temporary but I have noticed that I stay cooler, longer!

Alright now that I’ve shared my tips and tricks with you all let’s get on with today’s outfit!

IMG_2458

Stars and Stripes is what’s going on for a Tuesday afternoon!

I adore this dress I bought from a midnight deal on Jane!

I adore anything patriotic! Stars, stripes, red, white and blue yes please!!

IMG_2454

IMG_2462

Now I added my white lace skirt extender for some extra length! Plus the lace adds some feminine texture!

IMG_2456

For my hair and makeup I wore a classic red lip and a vintage half up half down hair do with a red hair bow!

IMG_2455

IMG_2457                               I think this dress would be an awesome 4th of July outfit!!

IMG_2453

Well that wraps up today’s post! I hope you all enjoyed it and let me know some of your tips and tricks for dressing modestly in the summer!

Til Next Time!

XOXO,

Ashley

Modest in Red, White & Blue! Memorial Day Outfit Ideas!

Hey you guys!! Happy Friday!! It’s been crazy how fast this week has gone by!

To say that I am ready for the weekend is an understatement! (Shopping, food and fun? Yes Please!)

Memorial Day is right around the corner and I thought to myself ,”hmm I have dozens of outfit ideas on that!”

I personally love anything that is red, white and blue, anchors, stars and stripes! It all excites me!!

IMG_2151                           So for today’s outfit I have the morning off so I am going to swing by the store and pick up an order I made by phone.(Cant wait to show you all what the mystery item is!!)

I recently shopped at Rue21 and picked up some clearance goodies since they were having the entire store on sale!  plus buy one get one 50%OFF !

So…… I bought this top!

IMG_2147

I know I know… You’d think I would have enough anchor print tops already right?!

TOTALLY WRONG!

You can never have too many cute anchor shirts!!

As soon as i saw it I knew it had to be mine + I got it half off!

You can’t tell in the pic but the sleeves are actually cuffed! So J. Crew!

Now, I loved how the first outfit looked but last year I did a pretty similar look with the same skirt but with a different anchor top which was also coincidentally from Rue 21!

IMG_2135

#tbt

So I wanted to jazz it up a bit and I knew exactly what I was going to pair it up with!

I actually had to dig this striped H&M blazer from my hamper which is pretty intimidating because it was stuffed full!

IMG_2141

I love how this outfit screams nautical! Oh and here’s a quick little tip for easy pattern mixing!

Always match colors not patterns! In this outfit the striped blazer works with the anchor print top because they’re both navy and white. And the pop of yellow works because yellow and navy are opposites on the color wheel.

IMG_2149

Since there was alot of pattern mixing and colors already I opted for my nude Christian Louboutin heels!

Not the comfiest pair of heels but definitely the most stylish! (That pop of red gets me every time!)

IMG_2144

IMG_2143

IMG_2146

I already want to wear this shirt again!!

Well that’s all for now and I have included some outfit ideas for Memorial Day Weekend and 4th of July!

Hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!

Love ya!

XOXO,

Ashley
